It has been quite a while since we have been updating you on what we are doing so here is some exciting news. About 8 months ago we have started with a new brand, Quincessentials, to develop, produce and market a line of natural cosmetic products based around the Japanese Quince. We have now acquired all national and European legal licensing and permissions and have set up a production and research facility. We thought it was about time to let you in on how this all came to be.
Quince is a rich source of vitamin C, zinc, potassium, copper and iron. Also, quince is rich in certain organic compounds like catechin, epicatechin, limonene, and various other phytonutrients, all of which contribute to the health benefits of quince. In our region Quince is mainly grown for use in the food industry, the materials left after processing, such as the pulp and the seeds have been found to contain high levels of valuable active biological compounds. A shame to let such a material go to waste.
Our new brand Quincessentials focuses on the utilization of the Japanese Quince since it is one of the most underutilized fruit species with great potential when it comes to available bio active compounds in our region.
Ieva Urbanaviciute is in charge of research and product development. Ieva has a background in the health and cosmetics industry, holds bachelor and master degrees in biology and neuro-biology and is currently a PHD candidate agronomy at the Lithuanian Agriculture and Forestry Research Center of Horticulture Institute since September 2015. Conducting research at the Biochemistry and technology laboratory on the theme of: “quince biologically active substances and quince waste free processing technology development.”
This current study and its research results have shown an opportunity for us to develop natural, organic, sustainable and healthy skin care products based on a locally abundant resource.
Why should I use natural care products?
There’s no question that a natural and organic approach makes sense when it comes to choosing your food. The same can be said for other products you put on your body. Specifically, skin care. Think about all of the products you may use on a daily basis that may come in contact with your skin.
As the largest organ of the body, your skin not only absorbs lots of nutrients, but it can also take in a number of toxins each day. Up to 60% of what we put on our skin ends up being absorbed in the body and when the products we use are made from harmful artificial ingredients these place an unnecessary chemical load on the body’s detoxification processes and on the entire immune system, including the skin. Some chemicals remain stored in the body for several months or even years before they are completely eliminated.
Harmful ingredients in cosmetics are not just a personal health issue. Each and every product we use on our skin will eventually end up in soil and waterways, where it can further negatively impact microorganisms and aquatic life. All the more reason for us to come up with better solutions which are effective and healthy for ourselves and the world around us.
The most active, pure, effective and beneficial cosmetic ingredients have undergone minimal processing and come from organic or bio-dynamic plants. Quincessentials exclusively formulates its products with such natural and organic ingredients and will never use parabens, synthetic fragrances, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, GMOs, non-organically grown plants, or any toxic chemical of any kind.
